Nestled off of Woodward Ave and residential streets, outside of the main strip of Ferndale restaurants and bars is Cork Wine Pub. Its an adorable little brick building with outdoor seating, surrounded by plants and ferns. The interior is a little dark, but comfy, with local artists work displayed around the restaurant. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and Ive never had bad service there. The servers will tell me their honest opinions on dishes and wine, but its hard to not like a dish offered on the menu

The head chef is Jay Gundy. Chef Gundy was born and raised in Detroit. He considers all Michigan has to offer when he is thinking up his seasonal menus. Chef Gundy is also responsible for the deliciousness of Cafe Via and the original Townhouse Bistro in Birmingham.
I went for the first time during happy hour to give into my craving of a glass of red wine. I love red wine, I love trying to figure out the complex flavors and ingredients, even though I never can. I love the smoky, I love the sweet. I honestly love any red wine. They have a glass of red and white on their happy hour menu for 5 dollars, but their whole wine list is available to order. They also have a happy hour menu, with some of the most amazing small plates including Parmesan truffle tots, mini lamb meatballs, brussel sprouts among others at a lower price. They also have other happy hour prices such as 20% off bottles, $2 off all original cocktails, and $1 off beer. The bartenders and staff know the food and wine and can give you input on anything you want to order. They also have a large list of specialty drinks. Its honestly very hard to pick what to get, but every single dish and drink is Delicious so you can not make a bad choice. On my first visit I left stating “I’m going to be back here quite often.”
I returned with my boyfriend Phil for a date night. We ordered a corn pudding stuffed grilled quail, with roasted okra, dirty rice cake, pickled jalapeno, and a cherry reduction sauce. F@#king amazing. We also ordered the Yellowfin tuna small plate and a rock shrimp pasta. I can still remember what these dishes tasted like and our date night was over 2 months ago.
Most recently I took my girlfriends Allie and Bianca there for dinner to catch up. Everything on the menu sounded good to us so we had to have a couple glasses of wine before we ordered. We all got something different, so we could try as much of the menu as we could. This menu was different than the menu I had seen when I went with my boyfriend weeks before. For appetizers we ordered buffalo crayfish and the balsamic brussel sprouts. Everything was absolutely perfect.
I ordered the braised duck tacos, with charred onions,vinaigrette, carrots, cucumber, cabbage, and roasted bell pepper coulis
Allie ordered the black sesame encrusted walleye, with fingerling potatoes, corn, summer squash, spic lobster sauce and basil aioli.
and Bianca ordered a watermelon salad, with arugula, tomatoes, feta, cucumber, jalapeno, and balsamic. and a carrot soup with whipped goat cheese, pumpkin seeds and oil and shredded duck.
I mean just listen to the description of these dishes. Don’t they just make your mouth water. If anyone asks me for a recommendation for a good dinner or brunch, I hands down tell them to come to Cork. Besides Happy hour, and delicious dinner; Cork offers a Sunday Brunch with a Bloody Mary Bar (perfection), Tuesday Wine Tasting, and Monthly art exhibits called Sip n’ See. It is so cool to see people from metro Detroit taking pride in our community, its contagious and I’m so excited to see whats to come. If you are in the metro Detroit area, stop in at Cork Wine Pub for any of these events, you will not regret the decision and will continue to return like I have. This was from another trip seared beef tenderloin, whole grain mustard spatzle, roasted shallots, Chanterelle mushrooms, brandy whole grain mustard sauce.
